When your team hasn't won a World Series in forever, very often you need a scapegoat, and Steve Bartman played that role in Game 6 of the NLCS when he reached for a foul ball that Moises Alou might have been able to catch for the second out of the eighth inning. Instead, Alou threw a temper tantrum in the outfield, and Bartman was blamed for costing the Cubs a title as Miami scored eight runs to win 8-3. The Marlins beat Kerry Wood in Game 7 to extend the Cubs' World Series futility. In other news, Sammy Sosa was caught with a corked bat, Scott Skiles replaced Bill Cartwright, the Sox hosted the All-Star Game and Comiskey Park became U.S. Cellular Field.
