After separating himself from Utah's Bryon Russell, Michael Jordan rose and nailed his final shot for the Bulls, clinching his sixth title on June 14, 1998. It seemed like the perfect ending to a legendary career, but Jordan wasn't through with the NBA. In May, a 20-year-old kid named Kerry Wood struck out 20 Astros in his fifth major league start and his teammate Sammy Sosa joined Mark McGwire for an epic -- and later controversial -- home run race. Sosa finished with 66 home runs, his first of three 60-plus-homer seasons. After winning a one-game playoff against the Giants, the Cubs lost to the Braves in the playoffs. And the Dave Wannstedt era ended after six seasons when the Bears fired Mike Ditka's replacement.
