"It's just a great fit," Taylor said of Marquette. "I feel comfortable there. Plus, my family can come and see me play. I just hope to be another player who can be good at Marquette. I hope to do what I do now for Simeon -- play hard, rebound, score, play defense."
Being from Chicago, Taylor was one of DePaul's main targets in the Class of 2012. Taylor said he chose Big East rival Marquette over the Blue Demons because of its recent success.
"They're winning," Taylor said. "DePaul doesn't win. I think if they start winning maybe Chicago kids will like them."
Mike Irvin, Taylor's club coach, thought Taylor was a perfect fit for Marquette coach Buzz Williams' system.
"Buzz likes to run with ball screens, pick and pop, get up and down and play with toughness," Irvin said. "Steve's a competitive guy and wanted to play in one of the best conferences in the country. It was a lot of things that factored in Marquette."
Taylor is Marquette's third Class of 2012 commitment.
"Steve Taylor is a nice get and fit for Marquette," ESPN recruiting coordinator Reggie Rankin said. "He's a versatile forward that can make perimeter shots out to the arc and rebound on both ends. Marquette assistant coach Tony Benford and head coach Buzz Williams made Taylor a priority and it paid off."
