JOLIET, Ill. -- NASCAR will open the Chase for the Sprint Cup at Chicagoland Speedway for the third consecutive year in 2013.

Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR's senior vice president of race operations, said before Sunday's Chase opener that the 1½-mile track will host the first of the 10 playoff races again.

The 2013 Sprint Cup schedule is expected to be released in about two weeks.

NASCAR officials like having the Chase open in the Chicago market, the third largest in the country.
