The Chicago Cubs have traded outfielder Joey Gathright to the Baltimore Orioles for infielder/outfielder Ryan Freel and cash considerations.

Gathright, 28, has cleared waivers, and will be sent to Class AAA Norfolk.

Freel, 33, has been on the disabled list since being hit in the head with a pick-off attempt on April 20. He's played just nine games this season and is currently on the 15-day disabled list.

Because Freel is on the DL, the Cubs don't have to clear space on their roster. He is expected to report tomorrow and will be added to the 25-man roster. At that time, the Cubs will have to make a corresponding move.

The Cubs also recalled right-handed pitcher Randy Wells from Class AAA Iowa. Wells will start tonight in Milwaukee.
