Football playoff bracket -- Class 6A
The pairings have been released for the 2010 IHSA football playoffs
Class 6A doesn't have one team that jumps out as the favorite, but is a loaded class.
In the upper bracket, Lemont (9-0) and Crete-Monee (9-0), both which received No. 1 seeds, have been among the area's best all season. Lemont's defense has been nearly impenetrable. Crete-Monee's offense is full of playmakers. They could meet in the semifinals.
Also in the upper bracket, Normal Community West and Danville have to be looked out for. Normal Community West (9-0) defeated Danville (8-1) by one point in their regular-season meeting. They could meet up again in the second round.
The lower bracket is just as packed with premier teams. Top-seeded Batavia (9-0) is the front-runner and has been impressive on both sides of the ball this season.
No. 2 Prairie Ridge (8-1) looked unstoppable before its loss to Cary-Grove in Week 9, but still has to be considered a state contender. No. 6 Cary-Grove (7-2) doesn't have a great seed, but it is capable of knocking off anyone as it showed in wins over Prairie Ridge and Lake Zurich.
No. 3 Nazareth (7-1), which shared the East Suburban Catholic title with Marist, has proven in the last few weeks to be an elite team. The Roadrunners have scored 40-plus points in their last three games. They could face Cary-Grove in the second round.
One of the more intriguing first-round matchups will be No. 4 Antioch (8-1) vs. No. 13 Grant (6-3). The two teams just played in Week 8, and Grant upset Antioch 22-14.
