Ex-Oiler Tolar dies at 65
Associated Press

Charlie Tolar, a Houston Oilers running back from 1960-66, has died of cancer. He was 65.

Tolar died late Tuesday at his home in League City, Texas.

Tolar, known as "Tank'' and "the Human Bowling Ball," was voted by fans to the Oilers' 25th anniversary team.

Tolar was an All-American at Northwestern State in 1958 and was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 1992. At Northwestern, he had 2,194 yards from 1956-58 and set scoring records that stood for more than 40 years.

Tolar's wife, Brenda, is a longtime athletic administrator at Rice University.

A memorial service was scheduled for Thursday in Houston. Another service will be held Saturday in Natchitoches.
