NBA All-Star Game MVPs

We've seen many brilliant performances in NBA All-Star history. From the first All-Star contest in 1951 to Magic's return in 1992 to last year's co-MVP's Shaquille O'Neal and Tim Duncan, many great players have had outstanding showings in the first 49 years of All-Star festivities. Here's a quick look back at some MVP moments.

The first NBA All-Star was played in 1951 at Boston Garden. The East beat the West, 111-94. Boston's Ed Macauley scored 20 points and was the named the MVP.

The All-Star MVP award has been shared three times. It happened in 1959 with Elgin Baylor and Bob Pettit; 1993 with Karl Malone and John Stockton and in 2000 with Shaquille O'Neal and Tim Duncan. However, Malone and Stockton hold a distinction because they are the first players from the same NBA team to share the award.

What do Lenny Wilkens, Larry Bird and Ed Macauley all have in common? They each won the All-Star MVP and then went on to went to win the All-Star game as a coach.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar holds the record for All-Star appearances with 18, but never won the MVP.

Bob Pettit holds the record for most All-Star MVP awards with four. Michael Jordan and Oscar Roberston has each won it three times.

The Boston Celtics have the most All-Star MVP winners with seven. The winners were Ed Macauley, Bob Cousy, Bill Sharman, Bill Russell, Dave Cowens, Nate Archibald and Larry Bird.
