Only two teams have won Super Bowls by committing more turnovers than their opponent in the game: Baltimore in 1971 and Pittsburgh in 1980. In 34 Super Bowls, 25 winners have had fewer turnovers. A look at how six statistical areas have shaped Super Bowl outcomes:

  • Turnover margin: Winners 25, Losers 2 (7 games even).

  • Net Rushing Yards: Winners 27, Losers 7.

  • 3rd-4th Down Efficiency: Winners 26, Losers 7 (1 even).

  • Time of Possession: Winners 25, Losers 9.

  • Net Passing Yards: Winners 19, Losers 15.

  • Penalty Yards, fewer: Losers 21, Winners 12 (1 even)
