Madlock helped Pirates to '79 championship

Bill Madlock was one of the premier hitters of the '70s and '80s. Madlock, who played third and later first, started his career the Texas Rangers in 1973, but after only one season was traded to the Chicago Cubs. During his three seasons playing in the "friendly confines," Madlock won batting titles in 1975 and 1976. He was traded to the San Francisco Giants, where he spent two seasons, in 1977. Madlock was traded during the 1979 season to the Pittsburgh Pirates. He became a crucial part of Pittsburgh's 1979 World Series run. He batted .328 for Pittsburgh and hit .375 in the World Series. Madlock went on to win two more batting titles in 1981 and 1983 before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 1985 season. He finished his career playing for the Detroit Tigers in 1987. During his fifteen-year career, Madlock batted .305 with 163 homers and 860 RBIs.
