BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech kicker Cody Journell has been suspended indefinitely after being charged with breaking and entering, athletic director Jim Weaver said.
Journell, 20, was one of three men charged Wednesday night after an alleged home invasion, Blacksburg police said. The men were arrested after officers responded to a report of a "physical altercation" at a house near downtown, police said.
Journell, a redshirt sophomore from Ripplemead, Va., was 14 of 17 on field goal attempts this season. The Hokies play Michigan in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Jan. 3.
Also charged were 23-year-old Matthew D. Dunton and 21-year-old Matthew I. Brady. The three were being held without bond at the Montgomery County jail.
Journell's attorney, Brian Scheid, did not immediately return a telephone message.
