Dec. 5, 1998: After decades as a downtrodden program, the unbeaten Wildcats rose to No. 2 when they faced an injury-depleted Aggies team in the Big 12 title game. A victory would secure K-State's place opposite Tennessee in the Fiesta Bowl to play for a national title -- and with a 27-12 lead in the fourth quarter, that seemed assured. But A&M rallied, tying the game on a two-point conversion with 1:05 left, then winning in double overtime. Kansas State had never before come that close to the ultimate prize, and hasn't since.
