Report: UMass hires Mark Whipple

Mark Whipple will return for a second stint as coach of UMass, according to a CBSSports.com report.

Whipple previously led the Minutemen from 1998 tp 2003, when they were still a Division I-AA team. In his first year, Whipple led UMass to the I-AA national championship.

UMass went 2-22 in two seasons under Charley Molnar, who was fired in December.

Whipple last worked as the Cleveland Browns quarterbacks coach in 2011-12. Before that, he served as offensive coordinator at the University of Miami under Randy Shannon.
