Vonn Bell undergoes MCL surgery
The sophomore's camp lasted only one workout. He suffered the MCL injury Tuesday, cutting short his bid to solidify a starting spot in the secondary for the Buckeyes after earning the job at the end of last season.
He tweeted his thanks for fan support later Thursday, writing:
Thank you Buckeyenation and everyone else for all the prayers and speedy recovery. I will be back. ⭕️- Vonn Bell (@TheVonnBell7) March 7, 2014
Bell, a four-star recruit a year ago, validated his promotion for the Discover Orange Bowl with an interception, raising expectations for his second season with the Buckeyes as they try to rebuild a defensive backfield that is replacing three senior contributors and lost cornerback Bradley Roby early to the NFL draft.
Bell is expected to be cleared to resume working out at full speed in May, but Ohio State coach Urban Meyer was lamenting the lack of depth at safety in camp even before losing a likely starter.
For the rest of spring, the Buckeyes will be down to just two.
