Jarvis Byrd granted sixth year
NC State safety Jarvis Byrd has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA, the school announced Friday.
Byrd sustained a season-ending ACL injury in the fifth game of last season -- the third time in his career he tore his ACL. He also missed all of the 2010 and 2011 seasons with separate ACL injuries.
"This is great news for a young man who has overcome so much adversity," coach Dave Doeren said in a statement. "Jarvis is a great leader for our team and his experience will be invaluable to us."
Byrd has played in just 14 career contests, starting eight. He started five games last season before getting hurt.
