Shane Beamer joins Georgia to coach tight ends, special teams

New Georgia coach Kirby Smart has added Shane Beamer to the Bulldogs' staff as tight ends coach and special-teams coordinator.

Beamer, the son of recently retired Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer, was most recently on the staff at Virginia Tech, where he served the past five seasons as associate head coach and running backs coach.

The younger Beamer, 38, has extensive SEC experience. He previously worked at South Carolina under Steve Spurrier, at Mississippi State under Sylvester Croom and at Tennessee under Phillip Fulmer.

Beamer has experience coaching both offense and defense in the SEC and was also the recruiting coordinator at Mississippi State and South Carolina. The Gamecocks reeled in some of their top recruiting classes under Spurrier when Beamer was heading up the recruiting operation.
