Devonte Fields returning to Cardinals for 2016

Louisville linebacker Devonte Fields tweeted Thursday that he will return for his senior year.

ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. had Fields ranked as his No. 6 outside linebacker prospect for the 2016 NFL draft. He finished the 2015 season with 10.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and 63 tackles.

Fields enrolled at Louisville last year after his dismissal from TCU in August 2014. He was charged with misdemeanor assault that July, stemming from allegations that he threatened and hit his ex-girlfriend. He later reached an agreement to dismiss a misdemeanor assault charge, pending his completion of four anger management courses.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Fields earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors as a true freshman in 2012 and was the league's preseason defensive player of the year in 2014.
