Ex-Houston security guard indicted for assault following AAC title game

A former University of Houston security guard was indicted by a grand jury on Wednesday for an assault following Houston's win in the American Athletic Conference title game last December, according to multiple reports.

Derrick Dewayne Hicks, 38, was charged with misdemeanor assault in Harris County (Texas), according to the reports.

Thousands of fans rushed the field at TDECU Stadium on Dec. 5 after the Cougars' win. But some of the fans were pushed, punched and body-slammed to the ground by security guards from Contemporary Services Corporation, the company Houston contracts for athletic events.

The Houston athletic department ended its contract with the security company in December after reviewing video of a guard hitting a fan in the head area.

Harris County DA spokesman Jeff McShan told The Houston Press that the office is still investigating other guards who were on the field that day.
