Vols' Joshua Dobbs forgoing baseball to focus on QB duties

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee quarterback Joshua Dobbs isn't planning to play baseball for the Volunteers this season after briefly working out with the team during its preseason.

Vols baseball coach Dave Serrano said Wednesday that Dobbs had worked out with his team about four days and had decided to concentrate solely on his football duties as Tennessee's starting quarterback. Serrano said last month that Dobbs, with football coach Butch Jones' permission, participated in the baseball workouts.

Serrano also said Dobbs is always welcome to come into the dugout during home games and that when his football career ends, "if football isn't his future, he can come back and play baseball."

Tennessee opens its baseball season Friday against Memphis in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The football team begins spring practice March 7.
