Report: Steve Spurrier Jr. joins Sooners staff in off-the-field role

Oklahoma has added Steve Spurrier Jr. to its staff in an off-the-field role, The Oklahoman has reported.

Spurrier is the son of former Florida and South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier, whom Bob Stoops coached under at Florida before arriving at Oklahoma. Spurrier Jr. was part of Stoops' first staff at Oklahoma, from 1999-2001. He left to join his dad's staff with the Washington Redskins and worked with him at South Carolina, as well.

Spurrier Jr. also spent one year at Arizona with Bob Stoops' brother Mike Stoops, who is now Oklahoma's defensive coordinator.

Steve Spurrier retired from coaching South Carolina during last season.
