Liberty hires Turner Gill as coach
Turner Gill didn't go very long before finding a new job.
The former Kansas coach was introduced Thursday afternoon as the new coach at FCS school Liberty, a Christian university in Lynchburg, Va.
"In our search for a new head football coach, almost every adviser recommended Turner Gill," chancellor and president Jerry Falwell Jr. said in a university release.
"Every indication is that he is a perfect fit for Liberty University. His experience is at the level where we would like to take our football program. His Christian faith is strong and sincere and what any new recruit would expect to see in a Liberty University head football coach. I think Liberty University and Turner Gill were made for each other."
Falwell also said the school would look into possibly moving up to the Bowl Subdivision, and has contracted with Carr Sports Associates to conduct an FBS feasibility study.
Gill replaces Danny Rocco, who left to take the top job at Richmond earlier this month.
Gill, 49, went just 5-19 as Kansas' coach before being fired Nov. 27.
