Source: Penn St. targets Brian Norwood

Baylor associate head coach Brian Norwood has been contacted by both Penn State and Hawaii and is a candidate to fill their head coaching vacancies, a source said Sunday.

Norwood played defensive back at Hawaii from 1983-87 and later coached safeties for seven seasons at Penn State, where his son, Jordan Norwood, was a wide receiver.

Norwood has been a college coach for 21 years, spending time at Arizona, Richmond, Navy and Texas Tech in addition to his time at Penn State. He served as defensive coordinator at Baylor from 2008-10 before supervising the safeties this season.

Penn State continues to deal with the allegations of sexual abuse against former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky and the fallout that removed Joe Paterno from his 46-year post as coach of the Nittany Lions in November.

Greg McMackin retired as Hawaii coach this month after a disappointing 6-7 season and missing the postseason for the second time in his four years leading the Warriors.
