Darryl Stonum remains on team
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan wide receiver Darryl Stonum is still on the team despite violating probation in a drunken-driving case, coach Brady Hoke said Thursday.
Stonum was stopped by police in Ann Arbor early Thursday and violated probation because his license had been revoked, probation officer Steve Hill said. Stonum, 21, was issued a ticket for driving with a revoked license, according to court records.
Police stopped Stonum shortly after he had pulled away from the probation office, where he had just checked in, Hill told AnnArbor.com.
Stonum is expected to appear in 15th District Court Friday morning for a previously-scheduled probation compliance hearing, according to media reports.
Stonum remains "on track" to finish his probation, Hill told ESPN.com on Thursday. He is on probation until June 2013, the Detriot Free Press reported.
Stonum's attorney Doug Lewis declined comment on Thursday, AnnArbor.com reported.
Hoke said Thursday at a previously-scheduled news conference that there's no change in Stonum's status at present.
"Until we know everything, it hasn't changed," Hoke said.
Stonum, a senior from Stafford Texas, was sentenced to two years of probation in June for operating a vehicle while visibly impaired in May. He was suspended indefinitely and eventually redshirted, leaving him one more year of eligibility.
Stonum started 25 games for Rich Rodriguez over three years with 76 catches for six touchdowns and 1,008 yards receiving.
If Stonum isn't kicked off the team, he will likely be one of the Wolverines' top receivers in Hoke's second season in charge of college football's winningest program.
When Stonum was a freshman in 2008, he was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license. Stonum spent three days in jail in summer 2010 because he didn't comply with terms of his probation.
