Darryl Stonum enters plea in court

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Former Michigan wide receiver Darryl Stonum pleaded not guilty Friday to driving with a suspended license, a charge that was deemed a violation of his probation and resulted in a jail term.

Stonum, who was sentenced and served 10 days in jail earlier this month, will return to court Feb. 3 for a pre-trial contest hearing on the aforementioned charge, as well as charges of not having proof of insurance and having tinted windows.

The 21-year-old Stafford, Texas, native was released on his own recognizance.

Michigan coach Brady Hoke dismissed Stonum, who had two prior drunken driving arrests and two probation violations that led to jail time, on Tuesday.

Stonum declined to discuss the court case following his sobriety court review and arraignment. Judge Charles Pope of the 15th District Court told Stonum on Friday that he would be allowed to remain in the sobriety court program.

Asked following court about his future in football, Stonum was noncommittal.

"I don't even know what I'm doing right now," he said. "Just going day by day."

In a statement released by Michigan at the time of his dismissal, Stonum had indicated he understood why he was removed from the team -- the school said it was for a violation of team rules -- and said he planned to continue playing football.

When asked if he thought he would have gotten another shot at Michigan after his latest probation violation, he told reporters, "I didn't know."

Stonum had 76 catches for 1,008 yards and scored six touchdowns in his Michigan career. He was expected to be one of the team's leading wide receivers entering next season.
