Charge vs. Antavian Edison dropped

A felony weapons charge has been dropped against Purdue wide receiver Antavian Edison, the team announced Tuesday.

Edison was arrested May 6 for suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon after police stopped the car he was driving in his hometown of Fort Myers, Fla. Police reportedly found a loaded .38-caliber revolver lying between the driver and front passenger seats as well as 17 rounds of .38 special ammunition.

Devon Edison, Antavian's uncle, also was in the car and was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Devon Edison was convicted of robbery in 2005.

Purdue coach Danny Hope released a statement Tuesday that said Antavian Edison was "in the wrong place at the wrong time."

"We are pleased to know that Antavian's name has been cleared of any wrongdoing," Hope said in the statement.

Edison, a two-year starter, led Purdue with 584 receiving yards and ranked second on the team with 44 receptions in 2011. He had 30 rushes for 124 yards and accounted for five total touchdowns (three receiving, two rushing).
