Source: Rob Bolden visits LSU
BATON ROUGE, La. -- Former Penn State quarterback Rob Bolden visited LSU over the weekend, a source close to the Tigers confirmed Sunday.

Everything LSU, from recruiting to news to game coverage, is available at ESPN.com's GeauxTigerNation.
A source confirmed Monday morning that Bolden hasn't been on Penn State's team for more than a week. He was technically off the team once he was released from his scholarship -- before the NCAA's sanctions against the university were handed down, the source said.
Because of the timing, it's unclear whether LSU would benefit from a stipulation that would afford it an extra scholarship this year for taking on a transferring Penn State player.
Attempts to contact Bolden, who in 2010 became the first freshman to start a season at quarterback in 100 years at Penn State, on Sunday were unsuccessful.
A source with direct knowledge of the situation said Penn State coach Bill O'Brien granted Bolden a release from his scholarship prior to the sanctions being handed down Monday. The source did not say how long ago the release was granted.

Ivan Maisel and Beano Cook continue to react to the Penn State story as players start investigating transferring.
Bolden attempted to transfer after the 2011 season but Joe Paterno, then still coach, refused to release him from his scholarship.
Bolden, a 6-foot-3, 214-pound native of Orchard Lake, Mich., completed 165 of 328 passes for 2,045 yards with seven touchdowns and 14 interceptions in his two seasons at Happy Valley. If he goes to LSU, he would add needed depth to the Tigers. LSU has just one quarterback -- starter Zach Mettenberger -- who is not a freshman.
Mettenberger's backups, Stephen Rivers and Jerrard Randall, are redshirt freshmen.
Also, true freshman Jeremy Liggins is on the fall roster, but he was struggling to meet NCAA initial eligibility requirements and signed with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College during the summer. It's unclear whether he will meet his minimal requirements to join the Tigers.
Bolden reportedly is the fourth Nittany Lion to visit another school. The others are linebacker Khairi Fortt, offensive tackle Ryan Nowicki and tailback Silas Redd.
