EJ Manuel (ankle) misses scrimmage
Another player rolled onto Manuel's ankle during a two-minute drill at Wednesday's closed practice, Fisher said. The senior left the field under his own power, wearing a walking boot intended to reduce swelling.
"He's fine. If he had to play, he'd have played," Fisher said. "A guy fell on his ankle in the last of the two-minute drill (Wednesday) and it was swollen up. He'd have been out there hobbling and aggravated the heck out of it. If we go tomorrow, he could probably go half and by the next day be a full.
"There wasn't no sense to push him. We got a chance to push some of these other quarterbacks. If we had a game, though, he'd have played. But the swelling, we wanted to get that out of it. He'll be ready in two to three days."
Manuel missed portions of three games last season with a shoulder injury, with backup Clint Trickett taking over for portions of the Oklahoma and Wake Forest games and playing all four quarters in a loss to Clemson.
No. 2 quarterback Clint Trickett, a sophomore who started when Manuel was unavailable last season, said Wednesday he has added about 20 pounds during the offseason -- muscle that was easily noticeable while making passes in practice that he said he hadn't been able to make as a freshman.
