Storm Klein resolves domestic case
Former Ohio State linebacker Storm Klein has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge, and a domestic violence charge involving his girlfriend has been dismissed.
Klein was dismissed from the team on July 7, one day after he allegedly "violently and purposefully" grabbed his girlfriend by the forearms and threw her into the front door of his apartment, according to a Columbus, Ohio, police report.
A trial in the case, originally set for this past Monday, had been postponed until Sept. 24. Larry James, an attorney for Klein, said an agreement was reached to allow for the possible return of Klein to the Buckeyes team.
An Ohio State spokesman said Wednesday that if charges were dismissed as reported, "there will be a re-assessment of Storm Klein's status with the football team."
Speaking on Klein's situation at the Big Ten media days in July, Meyer left the door open for the player's return.
"Storm has a good reputation, good grades, good student, good guy," he said. "He made a severe violation, and from day one, my first meeting was very clear about what we expect. It's non-negotiable, and he knew it, he understood it. However, if it all changes, we'll re-evaluate it," Meyer said.
"We have asked the coach (Urban Meyer) not to prejudge," James said. "We've asked that (Klein) be reinstated. He has said that if things materially change, he would reconsider."
According to information James presented to the court, the alleged victim in the case said that Klein "didn't hit her, didn't intend to hurt her" and that "she wanted the charges dropped."
According to a document from the Franklin County Municipal Court, Klein has agreed to 18 months' probation and adherence to a "behavioral contract" with Ohio State that includes many conditions. He also received credit for two days served.
Klein, a 6-foot-2, 242-pound senior, started 10 games at middle linebacker for Ohio State last season, recording 45 tackles.
Information from BuckeyeNation reporter Austin Ward was included in this report.
