Nebraska star running back Rex Burkhead left Saturday's game against Southern Miss with a knee injury and is not expected to return to the contest.
Nebraska officials have described the injury as a sprained MCL in his left knee.
Burkhead had three carries for 68 yards, including a 57-yard touchdown early in the game, before limping to the sidelines. The senior rushed for 1,357 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior, and the school launched a Heisman Trophy campaign for him last month.
