Missouri quarterback James Franklin will not play for the Tigers against Arizona State on Saturday, coach Gary Pinkel told ESPN's Shelley Smith.
Pinkel had indicated he expected Franklin to play, but told Smith on the television broadcast that Franklin "can't play."
Redshirt freshman Corbin Berkstresser started for Franklin.
Franklin, who underwent shoulder surgery this spring, was injured last Saturday in Missouri's 41-20 loss to Georgia when Bulldogs linebacker Jarvis Jones hit his arm as it was going forward on a pass attempt.
One source said Franklin didn't throw much this week because his arm was sore, but the injury isn't expected to be serious.
On the season, Franklin has passed for 400 yards with three touchdowns and one interception on 38 of 62 passing. He has also carried the ball
26 times for 64 yards.
Berkstresser made his first career start. In two games this season, he has passed for 60 yards and a touchdown on 5 of 5 passing.
