Kansas State has pulled into a prime spot behind No. 1 Alabama in an open race spread out among four unbeaten teams.

With the second spot for the BCS National Championship game vacated by Florida after its loss to Georgia a day earlier, the Wildcats are the new No. 2 team in the BCS standings released Sunday.

Notre Dame moved from fifth up to No. 3, while high-scoring Oregon remained No. 4.

The Ducks sit second in both polls used in the BCS calculations -- as well as the AP poll -- but are ranked fifth in the computers, which make up a third of the standings.

Kansas State and Notre Dame are tied for first in the computer rankings, while Alabama is third and Florida fourth. Kansas State is third in the polls, one ahead of the Fighting Irish.

Oregon's upcoming schedule could help solve the Ducks' computer problem. Oregon plays three opponents in the BCS top 25 (Southern California, Stanford and Oregon State) in its last four games, starting with the Trojans in Los Angeles on Saturday. The Pac-12 title game, if the Ducks get there, should give Oregon another quality opponent.

Notre Dame, with four games left, faces only one more team with a winning record (USC). Kansas State has three winning teams in its four remaining opponents, though only No. 25 Texas is in the BCS top 25.

Kansas State plays Oklahoma State at home Saturday and Notre Dame faces Pittsburgh.

Alabama has what looks to be its toughest test of the season coming up this week, when it visits No. 5 LSU on Saturday in an SEC West showdown.

LSU leads a pack of SEC teams in the standings, just ahead of No. 6 Georgia, No. 7 Florida and No. 8 South Carolina.

Florida State is ninth while unbeaten Louisville rounds out the top 10.

No. 13 Clemson is ranked ninth in both polls but was considered 21st-best by the computers, the same as fellow ACC contender Florida State.

Down the list, it looks as if No. 21 Boise State could make another run at the BCS, with help from the Big Ten.

If the Broncos can get into the top 16 and be ahead of a champion from one of the automatic qualifying conferences, the Broncos would earn an automatic bid to the marquee bowls,

The highest ranked Big Ten team is Nebraska at No. 22.
