Cavs' David Watford is starting QB
Watford had been the favorite to win the job after the starters from a year ago left the program -- Michael Rocco decided to transfer, while Phillip Sims was dismissed.
Although Watford has not taken a snap in a game since 2011, he is the most experienced quarterback on the UVa roster. London said he called Watford and redshirt freshman Greyson Lambert in Sunday night and told them Watford would be the starter.
Watford faces a double-whammy in his first two games. Not only does UVa open against BYU, but in Week 2 the Cavs host Oregon.
Watford played in 10 games as a true freshman in 2011 but redshirted last year as London decided to go with Rocco and Sims at quarterback.
Virginia has rotated quarterbacks over the past several seasons, but London has said that he wants to stick with one starter in 2013.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
