Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said sophomore J.W. Walsh would be the Cowboys' starting quarterback going forward and that senior Clint Chelf will not be rotated in at the position.

After planning to use a two-quarterback system for the season opener against Mississippi State, Gundy scrapped that plan in the first quarter. Chelf got the start but was pulled in favor of Walsh after two ineffective possessions.

Walsh, who played the rest of the game, sparked the offense with his legs, taking a quarterback keeper 46 yards in the second quarter to set up Oklahoma State's first touchdown.

Walsh finished with 125 yards rushing and 135 passing in a 21-3 victory.

Chelf finished last season as Oklahoma State's starter following injuries to Walsh and Wes Lunt, who transferred to Illinois during the offseason.
