After planning to use a two-quarterback system for the season opener against Mississippi State, Gundy scrapped that plan in the first quarter. Chelf got the start but was pulled in favor of Walsh after two ineffective possessions.

Walsh finished with 125 yards rushing and 135 passing in a 21-3 victory.
