Mark Richt to sit Marshall Morgan
ATHENS, Ga. -- A caller to Mark Richt's Monday evening radio show finally accomplished what nobody in the media has been able to do over the last two months.
A question about Georgia's place-kickers prompted Richt to finally reveal that sophomore Marshall Morgan will not play in Saturday's game against South Carolina.
"That's the news flash for the show," the coach said.
Richt has frequently shot down questions on the subject since Morgan was arrested in late June on boating under the influence charges, saying that he would reveal Morgan's punishment at the proper time. Apparently that time was Monday night, as Richt confirmed that Morgan would miss a second game -- the same punishment spelled out for UGA athletes who are arrested for driving, not boating, under the influence.
Beless went 5-for-5 on PATs and lined up just once to kick a field goal, from 20 yards, but didn't get the opportunity to attempt a kick when holder Adam Erickson was unable to handle Nathan Theus' high snap.
"He was about to get a shot at a field goal that was actually shorter than an extra point but we couldn't get the ball down," Richt said.
Morgan handled all of Georgia's field-goal and PAT tries last season as a freshman, going 8-for-14 on field goals and 63-for-67 on extra points.
