Florida starts QB Skyler Mornhinweg

Florida quarterback Tyler Murphy will miss Saturday's game at No. 10 South Carolina with a sprained shoulder. His backup, redshirt freshman Skyler Mornhinweg, will make his first start and will take his first career snaps, the school announced minutes before kickoff.

Murphy, who suffered the injury to his throwing shoulder against LSU on Oct. 12, did not practice this week. He replaced starter Jeff Driskel, who broke a bone in his lower right leg against Tennessee on Sept. 21.

Mornhinweg, the son of New York Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, took all of the practice reps and has the confidence of his coaches and teammates.

"He's ready to go," offensive coordinator Brent Pease said Tuesday. "The thing that's tough on a kid in his situation is just experience. You hope you never really have to play with a redshirt freshman. Nothing against him because he's a smart kid, he works hard. But in a developmental situation, you hope that you get into your sophomore and junior year before you're in that situation, whether you're competing for the job or in a backup role ready to play."

The Gators also announced that starting cornerback Marcus Roberson will miss Saturday night's game due to a suspension.
