Boston College to settle on one QB

With Boston College's offense struggling, coach Steve Addazio says he soon will settle on one quarterback, Troy Flutie or Jeff Smith.

Wake Forest hangs on for 3-0 win over BC

Mike Weaver kicked a 25-yard field goal after Wake Forest forced a turnover deep in Boston College's territory in the third quarter, and the Demon Deacons held on for a 3-0 victory Saturday.

Wake Forest beat Boston College 3-0 despite turning the ball over deep in BC territory with less than a minute to play. But after getting down to the 1, the Eagles mismanaged the clock and lost when they failed to punch the ball in. BC becomes the first team to lose consecutive games while allowing 9 points or fewer in each since 1989, when BC also did it.

Demon Deacons defense stuffs Eagles

With only seconds left in the game, Wake Forest’s defense makes a goal line stand at its own one. The Eagles tried hurrying back to the line of scrimmage, but it was too little, too late.

Wake Forest, BC are struggling

The Demon Deacons lead the Eagles 3-0, entering the fourth quarter. Both offenses have struggled to get things going. Wake Forest’s defense has forced three turnovers while Boston College has only forced one. Live on ESPN 3

Wake Forest has three takeaways midway through the third quarter. Ryan Janvion forced a fumble and Josh Banks recovered. Wake Forest leads Boston College 3-0.

Boston College and Wake Forest have strong defenses and problems on offense, so a 0-0 score at halftime is not really a huge shock. The teams have combined for 10 first downs, 2-of-15 on third down and 212 total yards. Wake is averaging 1.1 yards rushing; BC 2.9.

Demon Deacons force turnover

Wake Forest's defense intercepts BC QB Jeff Smith for the game's first turnover. Cameron Glenn’s INT sets up the Deacon offense at midfield.

Eagles’ defense gets the ball back

Three plays after its offense turned the ball over, the BC defense comes up with an interception of its own. It's still scoreless midway through the second quarter.

Wake Forest quarterback John Wolford returned to the starting lineup against Boston College but there's not much in the way of offense for either team in the early going. Both have missed field goal attempts.

Duke holds off BC, 9-7. Duke has started 4-1 in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1962-65. The Blue Devils' defense has been phenomenal so far, and they have every reason to think they can get to Charlotte for the second time in three years.

Troy Flutie hits Thadd Smith for a 66-yard TD and we've got a ballgame in Durham. 9-7 Duke late in the third quarter.

Boston College can't complete a pass against Duke (1:27)

Duke goes into halftime up 9-0 on BC. The Eagles' QB duo of Jeff Smith and Troy Flutie is a combined 0-of-9 passing, but BC is winning the rushing battle without Jon Hilliman, 100-17.
