Lots of talk from Iowa DC Phil Parker about playing defense with passion. When asked about LB Josey Jewell, named last year as the first sophomore captain in the 17-year Kirk Ferentz era, Parker smiled. "I think he has a good passion for it." That's an understatement.

Iowa offensive coordinator Greg Davis looks forward to working after the summer with a fully healed C.J. Beathard, who battled injuries last fall and continues to recover from surgery for a sports hernia while practicing this spring. Desmond King is a communications major and got plenty of time on camera as one of the nation's best corners last season. After he's done in the NFL, a seat at the analyst table should be in his future. Potential broadcasters on top 25 teams

Iowa cornerback Maurice Fleming will transfer. As a graduate, he will be eligible immediately at another school with one season to play. Fleming played in 33 games over three seasons and made 17 tackles as a backup last year.
