Perhaps only winning five games in the regular season isn't such a bad thing. Minnesota, Nebraska and San Jose State all entered its bowl games with a 5-7 record this season and won.

Kenny Potter scored on a 42-yard run and threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Josh Oliver in San Jose State's 27-16 comeback victory over Georgia State on Saturday night in the inaugural Cure Bowl.

Spartans shine in bowl games

San Jose State is appearing in a bowl as a member of the Mountain West Conference for the first time. The Spartans' last bowl trip, a win in the 2012 Military Bowl over Bowling Green, occurred while the team was still in the Western Athletic Conference.
