The Big 12 (really 10) announced it's going to explore adding as many as four teams through expansion. The league's board of directors has authorized commissioner Bob Bowlsby to solicit interest from potential candidates. Among the schools that might be considered potential candidates: Boise State, BYU, Cincinnati, Colorado State, Connecticut, Houston, Memphis, UCF and USF. Bowlsby said the Big 12 board "saw the path forward clearly and has taken steps. We need to look at it logistically and put a plan together."

Kansas coach David Beaty is impressed with the level of athleticism in the Big 12: "This conference is completely loaded with ridiculous freaks." Beaty continued gushing, noting his observations this morning at the league's media days. "Oklahoma State, I just saw those freaks walking around, those are some big dudes."

Rapid decline of Jayhawks and Knights

Kansas and UCF, owners of the nation's two longest active losing streaks, both have major bowl wins in the past decade. The Jayhawks won the 2008 Orange Bowl and UCF won the 2014 Fiesta Bowl.

One interesting tidbit from Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby's press conference was his mention of creating divisions with "equity" ... in other words in relation to final records for teams. That could be an interesting way to split up the conference, particularly if the Big 12 decides to tweak the divisions on a yearly basis to separate the top teams while maintaining traditional rivalries.
