The winner of Arizona State's looming three-way quarterback competition between sophomore Manny Wilkins and redshirt freshmen Bryce Perkins and Brady White won't be announced until just before the regular season begins, ASU coach Todd Graham said. Possibly not until the Friday before the first game. "Our players will clearly know who that player is going to be long before the announcement," Graham said.

Arizona State's Todd Graham said Cameron Smith's return from knee surgery will give the Sun Devils some punch in the deep passing game.

Arizona State coach Todd Graham said he didn't make anything of ASU AD Ray Anderson's comments about toning down the predictions of championships and bravado. That said, ASU's goals remain the same: win the Pac-12, win the Rose Bowl, win the national title.

Arizona State receiver Tim White is celebrating his 22nd birthday at Pac12 media days, and nothing beats that. It remains possible the triple jump NCAA champion will play both ways this year.

Arizona State coach Todd Graham expresses skepticism for the trend of two-way starters. "I'd be very careful with that. There are very few guys who play multiple sports and very few who play multiple positions. Maybe he can do that for four or five games, but doing it for 12 or 13, things are different." He says split repetitions in practice limit the growth of players and in-game snaps will curb durability.

Arizona State coach Todd Graham: "We want to be able to attack and dictate to the opponent, but you want to know where that median is. "We were second in the conference against the run ... but we can't give up explosive plays."
