Louisville ready to step up in ACC Atlantic

With an electric quarterback and a lot of defensive talent returning, Louisville believes it can threaten Florida State and Clemson this season.

Andrea Adelson ESPN Staff Writer

Florida State running back Dalvin Cook and Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson played against each other in high school. "He scored on us on the first play," Cook said. Then Cook's team got the ball. "On his first play in, he scored," Jackson said. "As soon as he touched the ball, he went for like 80. I never seen that before." So whose team won? "They did," Jackson said. "Too much speed."

The best defense Lamar Jackson's faced? "Houston."

The ACC did Louisville no favors bunching Florida State (Sept. 17) and Clemson (Oct. 1) early in the schedule, but Cardinals coach Bobby Petrino said no one wants to hear coaches complain about the schedule. He says he believes Louisville right now is at the point where it can win its first ACC title.

Asked about Heisman hype, Louisville QB Lamar Jackson says he doesn't watch any TV at all, so he is unaware of the attention. He later conceded that he does watch Netflix, though.
