Clemson-Auburn is a must-see opener

Heisman front-runner Deshaun Watson and Clemson try to rebound from their national title loss to Alabama. They go on the road with another shot at an SEC team, with a 70 percent chance to win. Top Week 1 matchups (Insider)

With ESPN 300 receiver Hezekiah Jones' decommitment from Baylor Saturday evening, the Bears' 2017 recruiting class is essentially down to one commitment. While both ESPN 300 quarterback Kellen Mond and three-star safety Jalen Pitre remain officially committed, Mond is actively looking at Ohio State, Auburn and other schools. Jones backing off his commitment is a big loss for the Bears, but it also isn't a major surprise. Jones, the No. 16 receiver in the country, has continued to be heavily recruited by Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and many others even though he was a longtime Baylor commitment.

A critical year for Gus Malzahn?

It seems like a long time since Malzahn's first Auburn team was minutes away from winning a national title. Travis Haney writes that while Malzahn's job is probably safe, the program appears to be trending in the wrong direction. SEC coaching situations (Insider)

Kellen Mond, the nation's No. 2 dual-threat quarterback and Baylor's top commitment, said he's going to have an in-depth conversation with his parents about his status. Even though Mond has been committed to Baylor since last June, he has been looking at other schools like Ohio State and Auburn. "I'm not sure yet how it will affect my recruitment," said Mond, who attends Bradenton (Florida) IMG Academy but is originally from San Antonio. "I definitely committed there because of Art Briles, but I won't know or do anything until I talk to my parents more in depth."

Baylor QB commit Kellen Mond was already looking around quite a bit before Bears' coach Art Briles was dismissed Thursday. A Big Ten recruiter just told me he expects Mond, the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback, to decommit today or within a few days because of the news. Mond is also heavily considering Ohio State, Auburn, Florida and others.

Last year's QB quandary left quite the bad taste in the mouths of Auburn fans. Sean White seems to have had the steadiest spring practice of any of the Tigers' signal-callers, but don't count out John Franklin III. Ranking QB battles (Insider)
