Class of 2012 shooting guard Melvin Johnson (Bronx, N.Y./St. Benedict's Prep) committed to Virginia Commonwealth on Friday night just weeks after gaining a release from the letter of intent he signed with Miami.
6-foot-11 center Tonye Jekiri (Hialeah, Fla./Champagnat Catholic) gave Miami a verbal commitment on Monday and said he will join the Hurricanes' 2012 class. Jekiri's AAU coach, Kenny Gillion, has confirmed the news.
Multiple sources are reporting that 6-foot-3 shooting guard Melvin Johnson verbally committed to Miami and new head coach Jim Larranaga on Sunday. The Bronx native chose the Hurricanes over Virginia Tech and South Florida.
