ESPN 25 Power Rankings: Week: 7

Week:

After games of Jan. 6

We know what you're thinking: How can they jump a team from outside the top 25 to No. 4 overall?

Well, let's try to clear things up while also making it clear that this situation isn't likely to come up again anytime soon. Dallas Prime Prep entered the winter with a loaded roster but with a cloud of uncertainty stemming from several of its stars, including No. 4 junior Emmanuel Mudiay, transferring from Grace Prep and into Deion Sanders' charter school.

We originally had Prep slated to be ranked in Week 1, but the team's situation was still in doubt as the season began so we awaited a resolution. Eventually, Prime Prep had its players cleared and the school separated from the UIL, electing to play a national schedule similar to that of Findlay Prep's.

On the court , Prime Prep has left no doubt it is one of the nation's best, its 14-0 record highlighted by last Friday's win over then-No. 3 Huntington Prep. Our staff, along with several top 25 coaches, agreed that Prep was deserving of a top-five ranking. We settled on No. 4.

Huntington dropped to No. 5 and several other top 10 teams moved down a spot to accommodate the addition of Prime Prep. A big riser was La Lumiere, which inches closer to top-10 status each week, while Thurgood Marshall and Lake Oswego make their debuts.

Note: This poll is compiled weekly by the RecruitingNation staff. Every high school team is eligible to be ranked as long as its roster does not include any fifth-year seniors.
