espnW 25 Power Rankings: Week 8

A familiar No. 1 returns to the top spot in the espnW 25 Power Rankings after a three-week absence. Thanks in part to a pair of upsets involving top-five teams, Mater Dei (17-1) is once again the team to beat.

No. 3 Blackman (Tenn.) pulled off the week's biggest stunner with a 58-49 victory over previous No. 1 Incarnate Word Academy. Meme Jackson scored 17 points and Crystal Dangerfield added 13 to help Blackman take advantage of a rough shooting night by IWA, which made 19 of 55 field-goal attempts and 6 of 17 free-throw attempts.

No. 5 Windward continued its surge with a 38-37 win over previous No. 4 Long Beach Poly. The score was tied 37-37 after Poly's Jada Matthews made three clutch free throws, but Jordin Canada was fouled with 3 seconds remaining and made the second of two foul shots.

In Illinois, No. 17 Whitney Young handed previous No. 15 Joliet Catholic its first defeat with a 75-53 win.
