Georgia evens the score
OMAHA, Neb. -- Georgia tied the score at 6-6 in the fourth inning, producing the first earned runs against Holden Sprague in the College World Series.
Matt Olson's leadoff double and Gordon Beckham's RBI-single accounted for the run. The Bulldogs appeared poised for more when Beckham's hustle on a hit-and-run play allowed him to beat the throw to second. Hitter Bryce Massanari was safe when the relay at first was late.
But Sprague escaped further damage when he struck out Matt Cerione and Beckham was caught stealing third on an inning-ending double play.
Sprague had a string of five innings without an earned run before the Georgia rally. That was the second-longest streak without an earned run in the tournament, trailing only a streak of 5 2/3 innings by Chris Kelley of Rice.
