Scoring nearing a record high
OMAHA, Neb. -- Fresno State added three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving the Bulldogs an 18-10 lead over Georgia after seven innings.
The Bulldogs loaded the bases against Georgia reliever Justin Grimm as Gavin Hedstrom led off with a hit by pitch and walks by Eric Wetzel and Steve Susdorf. Alan Ahmady followed with a two-run single and Danny Grubb added a sacrifice fly later in the inning.
The 28 combined runs are putting Tuesday's game into one of the highest scoring in CWS history. The record is 35 runs scored, which was scored twice in previous games. Arizona State beat Oklahoma State, 23-12, on June 5, 1984. And USC defeated Arizona State, 21-14, on June 6, 1998.
