Unusual suspects producing for Cards, Dores

June, 1, 2009
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- To win an NCAA regional, sometimes you need production from unlikely sources.

Louisville got that in the seventh inning from light-hitting shortstop John Dao. He had looked overmatched all weekend, going 0-for-10 at the plate. But with two outs and a runner on first, he roped a triple to the gap in left-center, giving the Cardinals a 4-2 lead.

Vanderbilt had crept within a run on Joe Loftus' home run in the fifth. Talk about unlikely sources. Loftus, the No. 9 hitter, had only three homers all season.

The Commodores have just brought in their third pitcher, Chase Reid. Tony Zych has gone all the way so far for Louisville.
