Greetings from Tempe for ASU-Clemson, Game 2

June, 7, 2009
TEMPE, Ariz. -- If Arizona State is going to close out Clemson tonight at Packard Stadium, it's probably going to need a strong performance from a pitcher whose season was thought to be over a month ago due to a hand injury, who's pitched just seven innings since April 26, who hurt his back in last week's regional and has given up more earned runs (14) over his past four appearances than he gave up in his previous 11 (7).

So, yeah, while left-hander Josh Spence (8-1, 2.37 ERA) is an elite pitcher with superior numbers to his Tigers counterpart, Chris Dwyer (5-5, 4.85), this one has some intrigue.

Arizona State won Game 1, 7-4 last night. If it wins again, it will face North Carolina in the College World Series on June 13 or 14.

If Clemson wins, it will force a rubber game Monday at 7 p.m. ET.
