The Arizona Republic was the first to report Neal's withdrawal.
Both Messina and Chaparral head coach Dave Huffine told the Arizona Republic that Neal withdrew for personal matters.
Neal, who was the last uncommitted player from the ESPNU150, picked the Irish last Tuesday over North Carolina, Arizona and Arkansas after a whirlwind day that saw him fail to show up for his originally scheduled morning announcement at his former elementary school, Kyrene de la Esperanza, because of personal reasons. Roughly 600 kids had missed class for the scheduled event.
At 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, Neal is ESPNU's No. 1 athlete and No. 8 overall player. His future could be at receiver, cornerback or as a return man.
Neal was the Irish's 17th commitment of the 2012 class, moving their class up to No. 9 nationally.
"There are a lot of things, that from our standpoint, we're still getting information in on," Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said. "But he's going to have his academics taken care of, and that's really the most important things for us."
